In Guatemala, Xmas Eve is celebrated with tamales (maize-based dish), ponche (mildly spiced fruit drink) and... fireworks! After an evening of small-scale firing (quite enjoyed by M&S, too), at midnight it got was shockingly loud and colourful, all over the city, from small firecrackers to the big sky-high ones, for nearly one hour.
